The Masi Gran Criterium from (J.R.)
Imported by Joop Van Rossem in Wateringen.
Was in very bad condition when purchased and has been professionally restored.
The saddle Masi apparently liked to work with at the time is a Donelli saddle.
he 'L' at the bottom of the bracket (according to Alberto Masi - interview Bob Hovey) apparently comes from the first letter of the first name of a Vigorelli employee-frame builder Luciano.
Joop Van Rossem went to Italy every month, picked up bicycles there himself (Masi and De Rosa) and brought them to the Netherlands (personal conversation with Joop).
A little anecdote.
When I showed the Gran Criterium to Joop, the first thing he felt was the transition between rear fork and drop-out ... the master can be recognized by the tail ...
The front wheel was spoked radially, would have something to do with weight and aerodynamics.
A panto saddle and stem (3ttt was apparently also preferred by Alberto) and a Masi 3ttt handlebar.
Assembled with Super Record (first generation).
