Suzzi vintage race bicycle, Italy
Suzzi had a shop at 21 Via Fosato, in Bologna from 1922 to 1986. The father was a very good artisan of bicycle frames with a workshop in Imola. He was known for exquisite work. Business was good and some of his overflow was handled by some of the better workshops of the time, like Marnati, Colnago and Pela, to name a few, and then branded Suzzi.
Alfredo Suzzi passed away in 1998 at the age of 96.
Thecfeatured bicycle is a 1980's model featuring Shimano 205 crankset, Sachs-Heuret derrailleur and shifter, Weiman brakes and tubular Ambrosio wheels on Miche hubs. I bought it from a woman whose italian husband bought it at the Suzzi Store, imported it to the U.S. and took it to ride on two subsequent trips to Italy. To be honest, until I rode it, I was not aware of what a gem the Suzzi was. As far as I can tell, it has the original finish. There's a "Sherwin Williams" paint store nearby with a chromatograph so they can mix to match the color of the bicycle and properly repair and repaint any rust issues.
