The name originated from a combination of "COLN" from Colnago and "ER" from Ernesto Colnago.
Colner's goal was to sponsor a second team.
By creating the Colner brand, Colnago was able to sponsor a second team. A bicycle manufacturer was only allowed to sponsor one cycling team in those years.
